Maynard James Keenan recently added another achievement to his long list by earning a brown belt Jiu-Jitsu, which he announced via his Instagram account.

MJK is best known as the singer and the primary songwriter of Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. Aside from his music career, he has been busy with other interests, such as winemaking, his restaurant, and his love for reptiles, the photos of which he posts regularly on Instagram.

The singer has also been posting photos of himself in his Jiu-Jitsu Gi from time to time and given his fans the idea that he has been practicing for a while. In an interview in 2018 with BJJ World, he had talked about Jiu-Jitsu and stated that it was the hardest thing he did in his life, but it was a journey worth taking.

Most recently, he received his brown belt and posted a photo to celebrate the achievement. In the caption, he thanked his ‘Professors’ by tagging 23 accounts that helped him get to where he is.

Here is the caption:

“Took a while to get here. And I’m not so sure I’m actually here yet. But another milestone was reached. Could not have come this far without your patience and faith, Professors.

The highest-ranking belt in Jiu-Jitsu is the Black belt. MJK’s Brown belt comes right before the black one, which represents around five years of commitment to the arts. In MJK’s case, he apparently dedicated himself to the art for five years to earn his Brown belt.

Once a student receives the Black belt, they are considered a professional of the arts. However, if the person continues to commit to the art, they can receive variations of the Red belt, which is given according to the years a person spends practicing.
