Tool and Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan was interviewed by Esquire and discussed whether he would consider pursuing a political career one day by revealing the reason behind it.
As you may know, many musicians, TV personalities, and actors have a great interest in politics, and most of them reflect their ideas about opposing parties through their bold statements. One of such celebrities is Ted Nugent, who has constantly been targeting Democrats as a Republican musician.
Other than Ted Nugent, some celebrities also chose to pursue a political career and were elected by their fans. For instance, Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger served as Governor of California for years. Also, Donald Trump, both a business person and TV personality, was elected as the 45th president of the United States.
During his recent interview, Keenan clearly stated that he doesn’t have any interest in politics after the reporter’s comment that he can also run for office as a successful entrepreneur and famous musician. The main reason behind it is Keenan’s unwillingness to act diplomatically and ‘play the middle.’
Keenan said in his interview that:
“F’ck no! No, I bowl with the mayor. He has to play the middle, nod, and figure out what’s best for the community as a whole—listening and separating the squawks from the actual criticisms and compliments. I couldn’t do that. I have a vision and I do what I want to do. I would not be good in that position. Off with their heads!”
In addition, Keenan highlighted that he has a vision and always does what he wants to do. However, he can’t act like that if he gets elected. So it seems that Keenan won’t run for office any time soon.
