The official Instagram account dedicated to the documentary called ‘Murder In The Front Row‘ shared unknown photos of Metallica frontman James Hetfield marking the time before his struggle with substance abuse relapsed.

As you might recall, thrash metal legend Metallica’s lead singer James Hetfield has been dealing with his alcohol addiction over the course of many years. Previously, during the recording of the band’s eighth studio album, ‘St. Anger,’ Hetfield entered rehabilitation for his alcohol problem mainly caused by family issues.

Although he seemed to be doing well for a while, his problems emerged again last year which resulted in Metallica’s cancellation of their tour of Australia so James could go rehab.

Additionally, in 2019, Metallica members appeared on a documentary film named ‘Murder In The Front Row,’ which depicts the 1980s Bay Area thrash metal scene. Recently, the official Instagram account of the documentary posted behind the scenes photos of James Hetfield taken during the shooting back in 2017.

As you will see in the photos below, James seemed to be doing okay which indicates they might have been taken prior to his alcohol addiction recurred. On the caption of the post, it was mentioned that the Metallica icon joined the shooting of the documentary at the time when the band had three sold-out stadium shows in Mexico City.

Here’s the caption of the post revealing James Hetfield’s rare photo:

Behind the Scenes with Murder: James of Metallica spent time with the Murder movie film crew in Mexico City in March 2017.

It was during the band’s epic run of 3 sold-out stadium shows there when they played to 200,000 fans. His stories and memories about the early Bay Area days can be seen in the final movie.
