Stryper co-founder and lead singer Michael Sweet shared a post on his official Facebook account and announced that the band has been dealing with some health problems, which have affected the making process of their new album.
Stryper released their latest album named ‘Even the Devil Believes’ on September 4, 2020. The band has been working on their fourteenth studio album, which is planned to be released by November of 2022. It is known that they have already completed the songwriting process of the upcoming album.
They have been rehearsing the songs right now and then will go to the studio to record them. However, it appears like the band’s plans were interrupted by some unexpected situations. According to Michael Sweet’s recent Facebook post, he feels nervous about the new album. He feels satisfied with the music they are working on, but he is worried about the making process of the album.
Sweet explained that they haven’t been able to work on the upcoming album with their full potential because Oz Fox experienced hearing loss in his left ear while Michael has lost his vision in his right eye. Sweet said these won’t affect their performances much, but the process will take longer than expected. Michael Sweet also added that he hopes the forthcoming album will be their best work so far.
Michael Sweet’s Facebook post read:
“I’ll be honest. I’m a little nervous about the new album. Not the music itself but more so the process. We’re obviously not operating at 100%. Oz lost the hearing in his left ear, and I’ve lost my vision (hopefully and prayerfully short term) in my right eye. We’ll be working this way, and it’s certainly a first. How will it affect our performances? Not much. It most likely will take a little longer to get what we want but maybe not. We’ll have to see how that goes.
I’m also at that place where I’m more concerned with the state of our world. I’m concerned about what I see on the news. Is it just me or does it feel as though we’re in a much darker place these days? Our country, our world. Maybe I’m wrong but it feels as though darkness is overtaking the light. People seem much colder and more concerned about themselves than they do others. There are some good people out there, but times are definitely changing sadly.”
He continued by saying:
“So, as I’ve been facedown, I’ve been writing lyrics, and although there are some straight-up songs about love, there’s more of a take on the state of this world with lyrics that definitely address that. Maybe, just maybe, this album will shed a little light into and onto some dark areas. That’s always my goal and always my desire. To help, not to hurt. To heal, not to damage. This is my intention with every song I write.
Anyway – we appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we embark on what will be our 14th studio album, and I really believe that this one has the very strong potential to be our best. I don’t say that lightly. I would never say it if I didn’t believe it. We officially start next Wednesday. I’m excited, and I’m ready to have an incredible year. I hope to see you all at a Stryper show in the very near future. It’s been way too long.
May God Bless you all.”
Stryper also plans to tour extensively during 2022, and they have already announced some dates. They will embark on the U.S. tour in May 2022, and they will start in Derry, New Hampshire, on May 5 and end in Orlando, Florida, on May 28.
