The former drummer of Dream Theater and current member of Sons Of Apollo, Mike Portnoy has commemorated the day he departed from his ex-band 10 years ago after a 25-year run and thanked all of the people who have kept supporting him.

In September 2010, Portnoy announced his departure from Dream Theater after a really long journey, with Mike Mangini taking his place as the drummer of the band. Since his departure, Portnoy has formed a variety of new bands and projects, including Adrenaline Mob, Flying Colors, The Winery Dogs, Sons of Apollo, Metal Allegiance, and BPMD.

As the date marked the time when he decided to leave the band, Mike Portnoy posted a long statement, thanking all of his supporters from his current band to his previous bandmate John Petrucci while pointing out the podcast taken by Prog Report in honor of Portnoy’s tenth anniversary of departure.

Mike said that, although it was a very sad day when he left, he looks forward to continuing this journey with whatever lies ahead. He admitted that he would not have been able to work as hard as he does without all of the people, who had his back all these years, supporting his insane workload.

Here is what Mike Portnoy said in his recent Instagram post:

“Absolutely incredible to me that today marks 10 years since I left DT after a 25 year run from 1985 to 2010… Wow!

That was a very sad day for a lot of us, but the ‘silver lining’ of it all was the unbelievable decade of music, albums, tours and events that was to follow!

(Flying Colors, Adrenaline Mob, PSMS, The Winery Dogs, Metal Allegiance, Transatlantic, Bigelf, The Neal Morse Band, Twisted Sister, The Shattered Fortress Tour, Sons of Apollo, Progressive Nation at Sea, the special Cruise To The Edge shows and so much more… Coming full circle almost exactly 10 years later with my musical reunion with John Petrucci!)

The Prog Report today has released a new podcast where fellow MP Warriors Roie Avin, Kyle Fagala, Kyle Graves & Daniel Levy got together to discuss all of my activity and output between 2010-2020 (thank you guys for this amazing recap and all the support!) 🙏”

He continued:

“The video is available to watch on the Prog Report’s YouTube channel
and the audio is available to stream or download here.

Also released today was an amazing essay on this last decade by Kyle & Phil Fagala which was posted in the official MP Forum on Facebook.

I suppose this is a great time to thank all of you for your incredible support these last 10 years and for always having my back. It’s been an incredible journey and I would not have been able to work as I hard as I do without all of you supporting this insane workload and musical journey you’ve enabled me to explore!

I look forward to continuing this journey with whatever lies ahead… Thank you! 🙏”
