The legendary heavy metal band Mötley Crüe‘s last Instagram post attracted a lot of attention due to a James Hetfield detail that the band’s fans and followers spotted.

Mötley Crüe‘s latest Instagram post is a photograph taken around the ’80s, probably after a concert. The photograph features drummer Tommy Lee and bassist Mick Mars with two little metalhead boys who are wearing Dokken and Ratt t-shirts, which were popular heavy metal bands in the ’80s.

Even though such a nice throwback with two proper metalhead kids is already exciting, the fact that one of them looks like James Hetfield has made this Instagram post very popular among Mötley Crüe and Metallica fans. While some commented ‘Never forget the time when little James Hetfield met Mötley Crüe’, others joked about how ‘That was the day, James Hetfield got into metal.’

At this point, it is vital to do a fact-check. First of all, Mötley Crüe was formed in 1981 and this photograph was taken during the early ’80s, probably during their Theatre of Pain Tour. James Hetfield was born in 1963 and thus, he was an adult in the ’80s, which makes it impossible for him to be the blonde boy in the photograph. Secondly, Metallica was also formed in 1981 and James Hetfield was probably not a young boy when he co-founded this internationally famous band.

Even though followers and fans enjoyed this coincidence, Mötley Crüe also felt the need to clear the air and prevent any misunderstandings. Through their official Instagram account, they replied to one of the most popular comments arguing that the little blonde boy is James Hetfield, that ‘James is our age.’

Although this would have been a great coincidence, unfortunately, the years do not add up. However, the little kids who are actually in the photograph must feel quite happy to be featured in such a great throwback with such a legendary band after almost four decades.

The photograph was posted on Mötley Crüe‘s official Instagram account with the caption:

“Hanging with a couple of mini crüeheads somewhere in time #mötleycrüe”
