Nightwish keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen spoke in a recent interview with Louder Sound and talked about the passing of Children Of Bodom guitarist and singer, Alexi Laiho.
Alexi Laiho is one of the founding members of Children Of Bodom, and he has influenced lots of people in the melodic death metal genre. Unfortunately, the frontman passed away in December 2020 due to fatty liver disease and pancreatic fibrosis.
In the conversation, Tuomas pointed out that they were really close friends with Alexi about ten years ago. Not only did they hang out a lot on the outside, but they also visited each other’s houses.
Furthermore, Tuomas revealed that Alexi had been struggling with physical health problems prior to his death, but added that they never expected him to leave this world so early.
Afterward, Tuomas stated that he was shocked upon hearing about the news about Alexi and said that he misses him every day. Also, the keyboardist praised the late musician’s personality and said that he was a wonderful person.
Tuomas Holopainen said about Alexi Laiho in the interview:
“We were really close about 10 of 15 years ago. We hung out a lot. I went to his place, he came to my place in Kitee. We shared a love of music, and also Donald Duck and board games – innocent, child-like things.
We knew he was going through some troubles with his physical health, but when I got the phone call, I remember falling on my knees – like, ‘no way’. It punched me big time. I really miss him. He was a wonderful personality. There was an innocence in him, a naivety when it came to music that I really respected.”
Nightwish released their latest album last year, named ‘Human. :II: Nature,’ which is the ninth studio album of the band. Towards the end of this year, they will start promoting the album by going on a European tour.
