Mötley Crüe bass guitarist Nikki Sixx revealed how he has become such a great songwriter by responding to a fan’s question on his official Twitter account.

Besides being the bass guitarist and co-founder of Mötley Crüe, Nikki is also known for his songwriting skills that have impressed the whole rock & metal community. Without Nikki and his songwriting skills, Mötley Crüe wouldn’t be in the place where it is right now.

During one of the question & answer sessions on Twitter, one of the fans asked how he could improve his songwriting skills and make a song better lyrically, and Nikki revealed the method he used in his career.

Instead of listening to new songs from other genres or checking out other songwriters, Nikki suggested his fan study poets. With this answer, he also revealed how he improved himself as a songwriter.

Furthermore, this might be why Nikki is so comfortable with writing memoirs compared to several rock and metal musicians. On October 19, Nikki will release his brand new book, ‘The First 21: A Memoir,’ and maybe his fans will get more tips on how to improve themselves in music.

One of the fans asked Nikki Sixx about how to write better lyrics:

“Nikki, you’re one of my biggest inspirations as a bass player. How do you make a song better lyrically? I always struggle when songwriting, thank you.”

Nikki Sixx replied:

“Study poets more than lyricists.”
