Guitar legend Paul Gilbert spoke in an interview by The Captain and explained his thoughts about Swedish extreme metal band, Meshuggah. He said:

“All heavy metal past about 1989, I don’t know anything about it. The band I play with, my solo band, the bass player is a younger guy so he knows a lot of these things.

“He tells me like, ‘Oh, Meshuggah will blow your mind! You gotta go see ’em!’

And I listen to it and I just go like, ‘I’m not ready for that kind of harmony.’ My musical DNA was shaped around The Beatles and ’70s pop hits. You’re The Captain, and the first thing I thought was, ‘and I’m Tenille.’ You know, ‘Love Will Keep Us Together,’ a Neil Sedaka song.

The music I play for my boy, I play him Neil Sedaka, I want him to know ‘Laughter in the Rain.’ What key is that in?”
