The co-founder, former vocalist, and bassist of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters has shared a meaningful video message to support the people of Chile on the eve of the momentous occasion of a National Referendum and spoke Spanish for them.

As you may know, the legendary British musician, Roger Waters, is one of the most sensible leading figures on social media about politics and social injustice all around the world. A short time ago, he has tweeted to support the talented actor Mark Ruffalo over the Isreal issue.

Most recently, Waters has stood up for the people of Chile, who have been repressed and feared during the Pinochet years. Roger Waters has called out to his followers from Chile in their own language and invited them to vote and change history.

In the caption of his political video message, Waters said the people of Chile are on the eve of the momentous occasion to replace the Old Constitution, which was imposed by the dictator Pinochet, with a New Constitution approved by the people.

The 2020 Chilean national plebiscite, which came out as a response to the 2019 Chilean protests, is scheduled to be held in Chile on 25 October 2020. Sunday’s referendum could mean the end of the 1980 constitution that allowed privatization to flourish and led to widespread inequality.

The planned referendum will determine whether a new constitution will be drafted, and whether it will be drafted by a constitutional convention, made up of members elected directly for this convention, or a mixed constitutional convention, made up in halves by currently-sitting members of Parliament and directly elected citizens.

A second vote, which will be held alongside municipal and gubernatorial elections on 11 April 2021, would elect the members of the constitutional convention. A third vote, which is expected to occur in 2022, would accept or reject the new constitution after it is drafted.

Here’s what was said in Roger Waters’ recent tweet:

A message from Roger to the people of Chile on the eve of the momentous occasion of a National Referendum to replace the Old Constitution, that was imposed by the dictator Pinochet, with a New Constitution approved by the People. Love R.”
