Queen frontman Freddie Mercury’s biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” has been nominated for five Academy Award: “Best Picture,” “Sound Editing,” “Sound Mixing,” “Film Editing,” and “Best Actor,” for Rami Malek’s portrayal of Freddie Mercury.

Queen guitarist Brian May has reacted to Academy Award nominations for Bohemian Rhapsody in an Instagram post. He wrote:

“Amazing to get FIVE Oscar nominations! Thankful, grateful, blessed! Amazing punch in the eye for all those wingeing critics ! Amazing that @bbcnews did a piece on all the Best Picture nominations tonight and completely ignored just one – Bohemian Rhapsody.

Amazing our own country’s media are still begrudging of our efforts after nearly 50 years. Amazing how little it matters. Because our friends vote with their feet. Thanks folks. Always. Onwards ! “

During a recent interview with The Wrap, Rami Malek expressed his feelings and said:

“I didn’t know [the nominations were] today, but I had a feeling it might be. I’m in Paris so I’m ahead of schedule, so I didn’t have to wake up that early. It’s everything you expect it to be — I’m walking on cloud nine. It felt otherworldly. It was snowing outside, so it already felt magical, and the nomination just added to it.”
