The founding member and bassist of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flea, recently posted a photo on his Instagram account to pay his respects to the late rhythm guitarist of The Clash, Joe Strummer, and shares the reason for his love of punk rock music.
Flea is one of the rockstars who are the most active on social media and enjoys using his Instagram and Twitter accounts to post photos from his daily life, share his views on social and political matters, and pay tribute to the artists who have inspired him throughout his music career.
This time, he used his Instagram account to pay tribute to the co-founder and irreplaceable member of The Clash, Joe Strummer, who passed away due to an undiagnosed congenital heart defect on December 22, 2002. Flea posted a photo of Joe Strummer alongside one of his most famous quotes and paid his respects to the iconic punk-head.
The Clash was one of the most famous punk rock bands during the late ’70s and ’80s, and they are credited as key figures in the original wave of British punk rock. Having reached great fame, Joe Strummer once found it vital to clarify their worldview and what The Clash represents.
He said that they are against fascism, violence, racism, and most importantly ignorance. Strummer stated that this is what they stand for and the idea behind their music. Flea posted this quote alongside Joe Strummer’s photo and said that this statement is precisely why he loves punk rock.
Here’s Joe Strummer’s quote as depicted in the photo that Flea posted on his Instagram account:
“I think people ought to know that we’re anti-fascist, we’re anti-violence, we’re anti-racist and we’re pro-creative. We’re against ignorance.
– Joe Strummer.”
Here’s what Flea said in the caption of his recent Instagram post:
“Why I love punk rock. Thanks, Scott Crawford.”
