Red Hot Chili Peppers’ talented musician and known as the respected star to his elder musicians, Flea, has posted a new letter on his official account and celebrated his childhood hero Raymond Pettibon’s birthday.

While sharing the details of the first time he saw Raymond’s flyers, Flea also thanked God for creating such a talent like him and praised his drawing skills by mentioning how a creative person he is.

Pearl Jam star Eddie Vedder’s wife Jill was one of the users who liked the post just like the other 16K people.

Here is the emotional letter of Flea to Raymond:

“Happy birthday to the transcendent Raymond Pettibon who has entranced me for years and years. When I was a little jazz nerd who knew nothing about punk rock and I saw his flyers plastered on telephone poles around town, I knew there was something serious, righteous, mystical and scary going on.

They drew me in, and I went. The music was over the top animal beauty and awakened something new in me. When you went to a punk rock show and the cops were waiting outside to beat the shit out of the punk rockers, it was art and action coming together, and Ray captured the intangible feelings in the moments.”

He continued his letter:

“Raymond has always lived in a creative world beyond genre though, and his art is followed, it has never been led by any movement, or groupthink, underground or popular. It brings hypocrisy and pain to light, and let’s beautiful spirits fly.

Punk rock was one little color in his rainbow. It always grows and changes, refines and crumbles, rebuilds and gives me bridges to walk on. He is attuned to and a force of nature. Thank god for Raymond Pettibon!”
