Former Pink Floyd bassist and co-lead vocalist Roger Waters recently posted a tweet on his Twitter account and addressed the elected President Joe Biden, and asked him to resolve an important issue in order to save democracy.

Roger Waters enjoys being active on social media and often uses his Twitter account to express his views on social and political matters. Waters has taken it to his Twitter account multiple times to address important issues such as the Palestine Reaction Movement, the wrongful detention of Steven Dozinger, and the case of Julian Assange.

Julian Assange is an Australian editor, publisher, and activist, who is best known as the creator of the website called WikiLeaks. The website had attracted a lot of interest back in 2010 when they published numerous leaks through U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning.

The leaks included the Baghdad airstrike Collateral Murder video, the Iraq war logs, Cablegate, the Afghanistan war logs (July 2010), and many more. These documents attracted worldwide attention and fueled numerous protests against the government and its wrongdoings. Upon the release of these leaks, the United States government launched a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks.

Soon after that, Sweden issued an international arrest warrant for Julian Assange on the basis of sexual assault. Assange said that these allegations were just a pretext because Sweden would hand him over to the United States as soon as he was arrested. He breached bail and in 2012, Assange took refuge in the Embassy of Ecuador in London on the grounds of political persecution.

Four years later, during the United States presidential election campaign, WikiLeaks published some Democratic Party emails which were classified as confidential in which the national committee had stated that they prefer Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. Following that, in the spring of 2019, Ecuador was pressured to withdraw Assange’s asylum and the activist was arrested by the police.

In his recent tweet, Roger Water addressed United States’s new president and said that his first action should be to ‘pardon Julian Assange’ and save democracy after the many hits that it has received. He stated that ‘if he goes, we all go‘ and that there won’t be a democracy worth saving after that.

Here’s what Roger Waters said in his tweet:

“FIRST THINGS FIRST MR PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, PLEASE TAKE THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS SAVING DEMOCRACY. PARDON #JULIANASSANGE

IF HE GOES WE ALL GO AND THEN WE CAN THROW AWAY OUR KEYS.”
