The former lead singer of Van Halen, Sammy Hagar shared the picture of another Van Halen frontman, David Lee Roth’s hand-drawn comic series on his official Instagram page and reacted to his latest illustration which was apparently about Sammy.
As you may know, David Lee Roth has been sharing his hand-drawn comic series, named ‘Soggy Bottom,’ on his official website and social media accounts since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
However, the Van Halen icon surprised fans with his recent illustration posted on his official Twitter page which directly targetted Sammy Hagar. Roth’s latest artwork clearly included Sammy’s name and his famous nickname ‘The Red Rocker’ which had the headline saying ‘The Daily Catastrophe.’
There is no doubt that there has been an infamous rivalry between two Van Halen frontman. It all started back in the 1970s, however, the feud intensified from 1985 onwards, after Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen, replacing David Lee Roth.
Four Van Halen studio albums topped the US Billboard chart during Hagar’s time with the band, while Roth’s first album with the band and his final one have both topped 10 million sales in the US alone. Thus, many fans think Van Halen was more successful with Sammy Hagar, and seemingly David Lee Roth is not okay with it, according to some fans.
During a previous interview, Hagar opened up about the feud between them and praised David Lee Roth in addition to expressing that Van Halen was better with him rather than Roth himself.
Here is what Hagar said:
“I don’t respect Dave’s artistry but I do think he’s clever and a great showman and what he did with Van Halen in the early days was fantastic. Van Halen couldn’t have made it without him.
God bless Dave, but he refuses to acknowledge that. Van Halen with me was even more successful than Van Halen with him, and that’s very stupid of him. That’d be like me not acknowledging what he did for the band before I joined: that would be stupid, wouldn’t it?”
The recent illustration of David Lee Roth was a pretty clear statement according to many. While fans were expecting a fresh drama between the duo, Sammy Hagar approached Roth’s ‘Soggy Bottom’ with a different angle on his recent Instagram post. He, apparently, found it pretty humorous and amazing.
On his Instagram account, Sammy Hagar shared the picture of Roth’s hand-drawn comic and praised his work. Hagar also thanked David for making him the subject of his art and surprised fans by taking the situation in a very friendly way. The legendary vocalist proved everyone wrong about a possible big feud between them.
Here is what Hagar said:
“I want to thank my old buddy Dave for considering me interesting enough to be the subject of his fine art hobby.”
Additionally, fans loved seeing Hagar’s attitude towards the matter and the comments poured in the comments section. As a matter of fact, a fan commented on the post stating that the illustration was only for humor and Hagar realized that even before him.
Here is what the fan said:
“This is why I love you. You saw the humor before I did, and ran away with it. Another reason you’re still a rockstar to me.”
Another fan thinks that the art of Roth is not hostile:
“I think the art is kind of friendly.”
