Former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar spoke to Scott Lipps for Lipps Service and recalled the time when Eddie Van Halen came to his dressing room and wanted David Lee Roth to meet him.

As you probably know, Black Sabbath, Boston, Van Halen, and Sammy Hagar performed on September 23, 1978, at Anaheim Stadium as a part of a Summerfest, an event featuring rock and metal legends. During the event, the Red Rocker got a chance to meet Van Halen founder Eddie Van Halen.

Eddie Van Halen praised his performance in Montrose, and Hagar always defined this day as one of the happiest ones in his life. During his recent interview, Sammy Hagar remembered how he met Eddie for the first time when he came to his dressing room.

Then, Sammy Hagar revealed that Eddie also wanted to introduce him to Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth. Roth just said ‘Oh’ and didn’t even come to meet Hagar in person. So it can be said that Diamond Dave didn’t want to talk with Sammy who would replace him in Van Halen almost a decade later.

In Hagar’s words, he said:

“The first time I remember meeting him was we’re running a show together, at Anaheim Stadium. Boston, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, me… Eddie just came to my dress room and I was like ‘Oh my god!’ He was just the sweetest and the most humble human being on the planet.

I remember, I just came out the stage and he was watching me. He came straight to my dress room and he saw David’s walking by and he goes ‘Look, Dave! It’s Sammy Hagar.’ David goes ‘Oh!’
