Exodus and Slayer guitarist, Gary Holt, recently posted a photo on his Instagram account and celebrated the birthday of one of his biggest idols, AC/DC’s Angus Young, and called him a stage inspiration and ‘bender of tastiest notes.’
Gary Holt is known to be one of the most talented guitarists of our time and he achieved mainstream success as the lead songwriter and guitarist of Exodus. His fame increased even more in 2011 when he was hired by Slayer to fill in for Jeff Hanneman, and was confirmed as a permanent member upon his passing.
With his recent Instagram post, Gary Holt revealed one of the musicians who have helped him become the guitarist that he is today. In his post, Holt celebrated the birthday of AC/DC’s legendary co-founder and guitarist Angus Young, who has been one of Holt’s ‘truest heroes’ and an immense ‘stage inspiration.’
Holt went on to say that Angus Young is the ‘bender of the tastiest notes’ and referred to one of his most famous techniques, pick sliding. Holt said that he would prefer ‘an Angus Young pick slide over a bunch of sweep picking’ and appreciated the musician’s contribution to the rock and metal scenes.
Here’s what Gary Holt said in the caption of his post:
“Happy birthday to Angus McKinnon Young! One of my true heroes, stage inspiration, bender of the tastiest notes! I’ll take an Angus Young pick slide over a bunch of sweep picking ANY DAY! Cheers to a top-five guitar idol of mine!”
