Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor spoke in an interview with Jonesy’s Jukebox, and revealed some informations about his masks. He also explained how he ended up the designs of his masks.

Corey said “we’re recording a new album right now”. Then interviewer asked “When you do Slipknot shows, you still wear the mask?”. Corey responded:

“Oh yeah. I mean, we don’t have to, but we want to. I’m working on a new one right now, which is really, really cool.”

Interviewer asked:

“Do you have someone make them for you?”

Corey replied:

“Yeah, we worked with a bunch of different people. Right now, I’m actually working with Tom Savini, the special effects guy. Like, he’s the master.

So, I went out, I went to his school, and he molded, like, he did the head casting and stuff, and I got pictures of it, and I’m like, ‘This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done.’

Interviewer said:

“But it doesn’t, the mask, it doesn’t cover your ears?”

Corey responded:

“No, I use in-ears, especially on stage – so I always make sure I have, like, a couple of straps and then the ears are free so I can get those going on like that.”
