Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg expressed his feelings and thoughts about the band’s upcoming album along with Corey Taylor’s ‘other voice’ during his latest appearance on T95 The Rock Station.
Slipknot released their latest and sixth studio album entitled ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ on August 9, 2019, and it received very positive reviews from music critics and fans. Its well-crafted sounds and lyrics and the new era masks became very popular.
Last year, the band’s co-founder and percussionist, Shawn Crahan, revealed that they started working on the new album, which Corey Taylor described as ‘very rad.’ Then, in one of his interviews, the Slipknot frontman stated that the upcoming album would be an ‘extension of ‘Vol. 3.’
Recently, Jay Weinberg shared an important detail about the record. He revealed that Taylor used his other voice during the studio sessions, describing it as ‘exciting.’ The drummer added that he looks forward to this ‘incredible album,’ which has only gotten better since they started recording.
Weinberg said in his interview that:
“Man, it’s hard to say. I mean, a lot of it doesn’t remind me of anything, which is, which is rad. There’s some really exciting stuff. As a listener, when you kind of try to separate yourself from what you’re making, and listen to it more objectively, and listen to it not just as a drummer, but more in the grand scope of how this song makes me feel or whatever.
There’s some stuff that’s incredible. There are some songs like where Corey is going off into this other voice that is new and exciting. And I remember when I first heard, you know, some stuff that he was laying on top of these demos and stuff. I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is gonna be incredible.’ And it’s only been elevated since then.
It’s gratifying to like. You kind of get into the demo world of listening to stuff over and over, and you get a little bit of separation after the initial tracking and let the people that we surround ourselves with get their hands in it with mixing it and all that stuff.”
