Smashing Pumpkins touring drummer Jimmy Chamberlin spoke in an interview with Rhythm Magazine and revealed his thoughts on possibility of new album. He said:

“I’m always trying to evolve. We’re talking about maybe recording next year with the Pumpkins and I want to make sure [if that happens] that I bring some really different stuff to the table.

The purpose of this sabbatical needs to be revealed in the music. I’m counting on everyone bringing some new shit to the table that is representative of the chance-taking that we’ve always done.”

Smashing Pumpkins latest album Monuments to an Elegy was released on December 5, 2014.

The album received generally positive reviews from music critics, but sold poorly compared to the band’s previous albums, peaking at number 33 in the U.S. and number 59 in the U.K., thus making it their lowest charting album in both regions since their debut, Gish (1991).
