Porcupine Tree frontman Steven Wilson spoke in a recent interview on Youtube and discussed his upcoming album named ‘The Future Bites,’ as well as his new single ‘Personal Shopper.’
In May 2019, Steven confirmed his new album and announced the release date in March 2020. However, the release date forced to be delayed due to the coronavirus and it is now set to be released in January 2021.
During the first announcement, Steven also released the first single from the album, Personal Shopper, and collaborated with the legendary musician, Elton John. Right now, the video viewed over 600K times in less than seven months on Youtube.
While Steven talking about the inspiration source for his new single, he stated that he wanted to touch upon the fact the over-consumption. Also, Steven said that Elton actually really liked this idea from the beginning, and this is one of the reasons why Elton collaborated with him.
Here is what Steven Wilson said:
“The first single, for example, ‘Personal Shopper,’ that’s a love letter to consumerism. I’m not complaining about it, I love it.
To me, it’s almost like a love letter to consumerism, and I think that’s part of the thing here, that we’re so busy consuming and following the breadcrumbs that these people that write these algorithms have created online that we’re actually not aware that there’s something very insidious going on behind the scenes.”
“And I think the album became kind of exploration of that kind of aspect of modern life – if that makes sense.
I got Elton John, the world’s most famous living consumer, he thought it was a great idea.”
