The great drummer of System of A Down, John Dolmayan shared his candid feelings about the Independence Day and showed his respect to the slaves who were disregarded about the construction of United States.

As the time has come to fourth of July, most of the musicians displayed how they celebrated and what they think about this significant day with their social media posts. The talented drummer John Dolmayan posted on Instagram his most sincere thoughts about the meaning of the day, as well.

He explained that the United States has gone both through great and hard times. Dolmayan referred to the slaves who were as fundamental as the founding fathers who were commemorated with Mount Rushmore. He paid his utmost respect to the forgotten Native American leaders and stated he would support a similar monument to be made in the name of them.

John Dolmayan said:

“The spirit of 76 lives in all of us! I would like to wish everyone a happy Independence Day and thank those that came before us many of whom left their ancestral homelands with nothing and made America what it is today.

We have a great yet at times terrible history, both our greatness and our failings should be remembered and recognized. I believe in a Mount Rushmore, I would also support a similar monument celebrating great Native American leaders. Where we have statues of confederate leaders why not erect statues of emancipated slaves who helped win the civil war alongside them. We can’t hide our past, good or bad.

We owe it to future generations to be truthful about it and raise them to love their country with all its flaws as they honor and love their parents who are also imperfect. “
