The Pretty Reckless singer Taylor Momsen talked about Gene Simmons’ claim on rock music during a recent interview with Alt Press.
Gene has been loud about the fate of rock music, and he has been calling out ‘rock is dead’ since 2014. And in February 2021, he repeated this claim by saying that the fans killed it due to the streaming features.
In the conversation, Taylor revealed that she thinks otherwise because the rock is one of the original forms of music and it can be blues, county, pop, hip-hop, and many more genres.
Furthermore, Taylor wanted to show the importance of rock music by saying that she can not live without it in the same way she needs food, water, and oxygen. According to Taylor, she can not feel complete as a person without rock music.
Taylor Momsen said:
“I think you have to remember, too, rock ’n’ roll can’t die for a multitude of reasons. One of them being that it’s one of the original forms of music. It’s one of the original art forms.
It stems from the blues. It includes everything. Rock ’n’ roll is the blues. It’s jazz. It’s country. It’s pop. It’s hip-hop. Dare I say, it’s folk, and it’s bluegrass.
It’s literally every form of music combined into one. And we get to play really loud electric guitars, which is just awesome.
So you can’t eliminate rock ’n’ roll. It can’t die. Anyone who says that it’s dead, in my opinion, they’re just incorrect because you’re looking at something from a mainstream perspective. Rock was never in the mainstream.”
“It’s soul music. I need it the same way I need food and water and oxygen. It’s a part of who I am. And without it, I don’t feel like myself.
I don’t feel complete as a person. So I don’t think that it’s something that can ever disappear.”
In the interview, musicians such as Amy Lee and Lzzy Hale also explained why rock music can not die and why it is considered as to be dead.
