The legendary rock band Pink Floyd’s history is filled with different kinds of power struggles between Roger Waters and David Gilmour. Both are exceptional musicians and wanted to determine the band’s musical journey according to their point of view.

Therefore, this need to be in charge of Pink Floyd’s projects led to great competition and personal problems between the pair. After playing together for decades, Roger Waters left the band in 1985, and he only reunited with Pink Floyd members for a few special events.

David Gilmour Promised To Join Roger Waters’ Concerts To Convince Him

Roger Waters and David Gilmour collaborated for a charity event organized by the Hoping Foundation, an organization committed to helping Palestinian people. The event took place in Oxfordshire, in 2010 and the Pink Floyd legends’ reunion received very positive comments from their fans.

They performed Pink Floyd classics such as ‘Wish You Were Here,’ ‘Another Brick In The Wall (Part Two),’ and ‘Comfortably Numb.’ In addition to them, Gilmour also wanted to perform The Teddy Bears’ ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him,’ but Waters thought that he could fail while singing it.

Waters talked about these times saying:

“Some weeks passed with David cajoling me from time to time, telling me how easy it would be, but I clung resolutely to my fear of failure until one day he made one final entreaty. I quote ‘If you do ‘To Know Him Is To Love Him’ for The Hoping Foundation Gig, I’ll come and do ‘Comfortably Numb’ on one of your Wall shows.’ Well! You could have knocked me down with a feather.

How f’cking cool! I was blown away. How could I refuse such an offer? I couldn’t, there was no way. Generosity trumped fear. And so explaining that I would probably be shite, but if he didn’t mind I didn’t, I agreed and the rest is history. We did it, and it was f’cking great. End of story. Or possibly beginning.”

However, David Gilmour managed to convince Waters to sing the Teddy Bears song by offering him a deal. Gilmour stated that he would join Waters’ Wall concerts to sing ‘Comfortably Numb’ if he agrees to perform the song. Therefore Waters agreed to sing the song and their cover performance became an unforgettable moment for both of them.
