Freddie Mercury Fanpage, which is one of the biggest fan pages dedicated to the Queen legend Freddie Mercury on Instagram, has revealed the story behind Mercury’s name change, quoting the lead guitarist of the band, Brian May.

The fan page, which has more than 50 thousand followers on the platform, has been coming up with little-known facts about Freddie Mercury for a while now. As you may recall, the admin of the page has recently unveiled the story of how Mercury turned into a fashion icon during his musical career.

Most lately, the page has indicated the fact that the first official document about Freddie, his birth certificate, names him as Farrokh Bulsara. However, during his school days in India, he adopted the name, Freddie.

After Queen had come into being in 1970, Freddie wanted to change his surname into something worthy of a rock star and chose his stage name from the Queen song ‘My Fairy King‘ which he wrote in 1973.

It was also stated that, according to Brian May, Freddie Mercury was influenced by the song’s lyrics that include the lines, ‘Mother Mercury, look what they’ve done to me. I cannot run, I cannot hide.’

May said Freddie told him that the mother in this song was his own mother, and that he intended to change his legal name to Mercury. At the time, Brian wondered if Freddie was kidding since he was a highly surprising man.

Here’s what was said in the recent Instagram post of Freddie Mercury Fanpage:
