Metallica started The WorldWired Tour on February 6, 2016, in San Fransisco to promote their tenth studio album, ‘Hardwired… to Self-Destruct.’ The fans, who had been expecting this for six years after the World Magnetic Tour, were pleased and excited to see them.

As a part of the tour, Metallica was supposed to perform two concerts in Copenhagen, which began on February 3, 2017. However, the performance was cut short because of frontman James Hetfield’s throat problem. The announcement made after the show devastated the band’s fans in Copenhagen.

James Hetfield Couldn’t Continue To Perform Due To His Health Problems

On February 3, James Hetfield suddenly stopped singing in the middle of the concert and exclaimed that he doesn’t sound good and wants to stop. He added that this isn’t fair to the fans who have waited a very long time and a significant amount of money to watch Metallica.

After the show, the band released an official statement and announced that they had to postpone their next Copenhagen concert due to Hetfield’s ongoing health problems considering his throat. As it turns out, the doctors strictly advised the frontman ‘not to sing a single note’ during his recovery process.

In James Hetfield’s words, he said:

“It’s not fair to you guys, man. You paid a lot of good money to come and see your favorite band, and we don’t sound good. I’m gonna leave it up to you, man. Would you rather hear us sound better another time? I wanna stop. What do you say?”

The band’s official statement read:

“We’re very disappointed to have to share with you that, unfortunately, as Saturday has progressed, James’ health, and specifically his throat, is not improving and he is under strict doctor’s orders to not sing one single note. So sadly we have to report that we will be postponing tomorrow’s show at the Royal Arena until September 2, 2017.”
