Ghost lead vocalist Tobias Forge was recently interviewed by Kerrang, and during their conversation, he expressed his excitement about their new album while revealing the reason behind his feeling. In addition, the singer opened up about the creation process of his works.
In 2020, Ghost announced their upcoming fifth studio album named ‘Impera’ and introduced a new character, Papa Emeritus IV, which the fans thought would play a major role in the record. It was supposed to be released in the same year, but they had to postpone it because of the pandemic outbreak.
Then, it was revealed that ‘Impera’ would be released on March 11, 2022, but Ghost has already released some singles, such as ‘Call Me Little Sunshine’ and ‘Hunter’s Moon,’ which was also featured in the soundtrack album of the slasher film ‘Halloween Kills.’
During his interview, Tobias Forge stated that it’s normal to get tired of working on the songs during the composing and writing sessions, which makes him feel like he doesn’t enjoy the record anymore. However, after the album gets ‘out of his hands,’ he perceives it differently. According to Forge, it feels like seeing his kid’s success, and that’s why he’s very impatient about ‘Impera’ finally being released.
Forge stated in his interview that:
“I know a lot of people that are creative, like myself, feel when you finish something, you’re always a little bit cloven. When you make records, it feels so good. All of a sudden, I get to a point when I make a record when I’m like, ‘I don’t like this record anymore.’
You just get tired of it, because you’ve worked so hard on it for months. After a while, you lose your plot a little, and you just have to rely on those decisions that you made. ‘That’s probably the right one, I don’t know, I can’t hear it anymore.’
That usually changes once the record comes out because then it’s out of your hands. It becomes whatever it is destined to become, in the eyes of the beholder. Or, the ears of the beholder. That makes me feel good. It’s kind of like seeing your kid succeed.“
