16 years ago today, The Clash frontman Joe Strummer has passed away a massive heart attack.

Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has shared two photos on Instagram and mourned the death of Joe Strummer.

He posted first photo with this caption:

“Joe Strummer died 16 years ago today. Here is me with his guitar at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Also check out “Redemption Song” with Joe, Johnny Cash & myself. Link in my story.”

Then he shared another photo and said “One more -post- for #JoeStrummer on the anniversary of his passing. This excerpt is from my speech inducting #TheClash into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame”

Tom’s Hall of Fame speech:

“Joe Strummer died on December 22nd, 2002. But when Joe Strummer played, he played as if the world could be changed by a three minute song. And he was right. Those songs change a lot of people’s worlds forever, mine at the top of the list.

He was a brilliant lyricist with anger and wit always stood up for the underdog. And his idealism and conviction instilled in me the courage to pick up a guitar and the courage to try to make a differecent with it.”
