Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello spoke in a recent interview with Guitarist Magazine and revealed his favorite band of all time with a reference to Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden.
In the conversation, Tom Morello mentioned that people had started to shift towards the punk music genre when it first became popular, but he didn’t want to change his whole music style. Instead, he wanted to be a part of both metal and punk genres.
Moreover, Morello stated that he didn’t give up Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden and embraced punk music at the same time. Also, the talented musician claimed that music is all about the spirit you put into the song.
Although Tom Morello made a reference to various iconic bands, he revealed that his all-time favorite band is The Clash. Morello showed his admiration to the band’s guitarist and vocalist Joe Strummer while praising their talent and the music they did.
Here is what Tom Morello stated in the interview:
“When my friends began loving punk-rock, leaving behind their Spandex and heavy metal, I still wanted to have one foot firmly in both worlds.
I never gave up Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, the Yngwies and Vais – while at the same time, embracing the rawness of punk.”
“You know, The Clash is my favorite band of all time. And Joe Strummer, as far as guitar players go, is both the greatest and someone who could barely play, to the standards of the readers of Guitarist Magazine.
In rock ‘n’ roll, it’s much more about the spirit of what you’re doing, rather than the technical ability. But I wanted to have both.”
