Former Black Sabbath singer Tony Martin recently gave an interview to Sakis Fragos of Rock Hard Greece, in which he reflected on his time back in the band. Martin revealed that Tony Iommi always denied reuniting with Ozzy Osbourne when he asked him about this directly.

Tony Martin joined Black Sabbath in 1987 and contributed to the band’s following three albums until 1991. Then, he briefly departed from the band, but he returned in 1993 and served in the band until 1997. He is known to be the second-longest-serving Black Sabbath vocalist after Ozzy Osbourne. Martin sang on the albums, ‘The Eternal Idol,’ ‘Headless Cross,’ ‘Tyr,’ ‘Cross Purposes,’ and ‘Forbidden.’

Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979 due to his alcohol and drug addiction, but he still performed with the band on several occasions. In 1997, Tony Iommi disbanded the contemporary Black Sabbath line-up to reunite with Osbourne. The band’s original members came together and organized the extensive ‘Reunion Tour.’

During the interview, Tony Martin was asked about the Black Sabbath reunion with the original members just after he left. Martin stated that he asked Iommi directly whether they thought about reuniting with Ozzy Osbourne so that he could go his own way. However, Iommi always told him that these were all rumors, and they didn’t intend to do something with Osbourne again. Martin stressed that they always refused it when he asked, but he knew they would reunite anyway.

Tony Martin’s words on the Black Sabbath reunion:

“I asked Tony directly. I said, ‘Are you guys planning to do something with Ozzy again?’ I said, ‘Just tell me so then I can plan what I’m gonna do.’ He said, ‘No, no, no, no. It’s all just rumors.‘ Yeah, right. Everybody’s talking in the business about it. My manager had told me. So I kind of knew it was coming; I just didn’t know when. I don’t think they really knew when. But they sort of denied it and denied it. But then it was gonna happen anyway.”

Tony Martin sort of implied that Tony Iommi always had the opinion of reuniting with Osbourne in his mind, but he didn’t say it directly to him. Maybe he didn’t know when but he still denied it. Martin was ready to hear it as he was sure that it would happen soon.
