While celebrating the great success of his latest album, Fear Inoculum, the iconic frontman of Puscifer and Tool, Maynard James Keenan had a new interview with Daniel P. Carter of BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show and revealed how he handles the toxic person in his life by leaving them behind.

You can read the conversation right below, transcribed by Alternative Nation.

Maynard James Keenan:

“Yeah my friends over at Shadow Tumbleweed always laugh because they know when I’m frustrated. It’s like, I have a “tell”, my exhale is my “tell”

And they go:

“Oh, he’s mad about something.”

From a frustration point of view, an exhale can be that release of tension that you are hanging on to an internalizing. However, it can also be a deep breath and a calm exhale of just moving on and going:

“Oh, I don’t know why I was hanging on to that”.

Daniel P. Carter:

“Yeah.”

Maynard James Keenan:

“I am the one hanging on to it, it is not the one hanging on to me. It doesn’t care about me, it’s just a thing. Whatever that thing is, whatever that personality is, whatever that entity is, it’s not hanging onto me. It can try but in all honesty, in your life, you just have to exhale, let those things go and move on. “
