In 1998, John Hume was awarded with Nobel Peace Prize. He also received the Gandhi Peace Prize and the Martin Luther King Award and became the only person who honored with three major peace awards. On August 3, 2020, John Hume sadly passed away in a nursing home after a long period of illness.

Recently, the official Instagram account of U2 posted an illustration of John Hume to bid the political titan farewell. On the caption of the post, the Irish rock band added a famous quote from Hume to honor his legacy. Lastly, the members of the band mentioned what a great leader and person Hume was by referring to him as ‘the greatest servant leader of them all.’

Here’s the quote from John Hume that U2 posted on Instagram:

“‘Ireland is not a romantic dream; it is not a flag; it is 4.5 million people divided into two powerful traditions. The solution will be found not on the basis of victory for either, but on the basis of agreement and a partnership between both.

The real division of Ireland is not a line drawn on the map, but in the minds and hearts of its people.’

There goes the greatest servant leader of them all… RIP John Hume
