The legendary former frontman of Van Halen, Sammy Hagar, was recently interviewed by ABC 7 and talked about how he shows his support to charity events like feeding homeless people.

As you might check out the statements of the former Van Halen star below, he stated that even if he tries his best, he can’t go to a hospital and see desperate and ill children.

Here is what Sammy Hagar told, transcribed by Alternative Nation:

“I can’t solve the homeless problem, but I want to feed them, so I think that’s the simplest solution. When you go down, you talk to them, and you see the people who are really in that line, and the food they’re giving them, really good food, the buck goes so far.

So I support food banks in every city I play for the last 10 years. Every time I do a concert, I give some money to the food banks, locally.”

Sammy continued:

“They either come to the show or if it’s a day off, I go down and give it and talk. So that’s how you feel it if you just keep writing checks, [you’re not connecting to it].

You’ll feel it better by getting involved. It’s tough, you go to a hospital and see a kid that is a Make a Wish foundation thing. I’ve done it, you go down and spend an afternoon.”

A reporter added this as a response:

“It’s gut-wrenching, it tears you up.”

Sammy told this back:

“I can’t do it, Is swear that is one place where I do just write the check. Every now and then I do try it again, I just tried St. Jude’s in Memphis a few months ago, and it’s too much. I’m on the phone with the family, and you cry two hours afterward. I don’t know what good that does, Sammy Hagar on the bed crying for two hours, I can do a lot more things for the world.”
