One of the best-selling bands of all time, Guns N’ Roses is still among the greatest rock bands since their formation in 1985. During their prolific musical career, they released a great number of albums and songs which were well-received by critics. Even today, GN’R is still active on the music scene, and their classic hits like ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ and ‘November Rain’ are listened to by a worldwide audience.

Mötley Crüe, the heavy metal band formed in 1981, shared the music scene with Guns N’ Roses back in the 1980s. Just like GN’R, Crüe also sold millions of albums worldwide and achieved platinum certifications for their albums. Although they had hard rock and heavy metal origins, Crüe later joined the first wave of glam metal. Known for their stunning live performances and their accomplished musical career, Mötley Crüe still has fans all around the world.

Back in 1987, Guns N’ Roses released their debut album ‘Appetite For Destruction.’ To promote the album, they went on the road for their ‘The Appetite For Destruction Tour.’ During the tour, the band opened for bands like Aerosmith, Iron Maiden, and Mötley Crüe. Back in those times, GN’R got into a drinking contest with Crüe and that ended up pretty bad. Let’s learn the reason why.

The Drinking Contest Between Guns And Roses And Mötley Crüe Resulted In A Shocking Photograph Involving Slash and Nikki Sixx

During his appearance on the 19th episode of Steve-O’s Wild Ride, Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee recalled the time when Guns N’ Roses members tried to outdrink them. Back when GN’R was opening for Crüe in 1987, Tommy Lee said that they went to a bar. According to Lee, Slash, Duff, and Nikki Sixx were present at the place.

Lee said that GN’R members tried to outdrink them and that resulted in a drinking contest. Following that, they started to drink and Slash got quite drunk. Lee then recalled that Slash started vomiting but still kept going. Upon seeing Slash losing his self-control, he and Nikki carried him up to his hotel room.

Lee then said they laid him down and grabbed their Polaroid camera to take a picture. According to Lee, Nikki then came up with a ‘brilliant’ idea. He jumped on the bed and put his balls on Slash’s chin, and asked Lee to take a picture of him tea-bagging Slash. Tommy Lee said he did so, and they put this picture on Slash’s all-access artist pass as well as making posters of it.

In the interview, Tommy Lee recalled the incident as:

They did try to out-drink us and we were like, ‘Oh, fuck, here we go again. Another band trying to fucking keep up with us. This isn’t going to happen.’ So we went at it, and Slash will tell you this to this day. We were just sitting there, Slash and Duff McKagan, me, and Nikki Sixx. We were just pounding shots at the bars.

There was a day off at the hotel. You could clearly tell they were like, ‘OK, we’re gonna out party you guys,’ and we’re like, ‘Alright.’ So we just kept going, and all of a sudden Slash started to get shitty. He was just right at the bar, and he and Duff just like [imitates vomiting sound.] He just blows chunks of vomit, and he’s like, ‘OK, I’m back…’

Anyway, we keep going, we keep going, we keep going… It seems like a million shots later and he does one of these on the bar [slams head on the microphone]. And we go, ‘Ah, this is fucking great…’

Nikki and I grab him, we take him, carry him up to his room. His hotel room keys were in his pocket, we got them out and opened his room. We laid him down on the bed face up. Dude, we went and grabbed our Polaroid cameras, and Nikki goes, ‘Dude, get a picture of this!’

Nikki jumps up on the bed, pulls his pants down, and puts his ball right on Slash’s chin! And I ripped a Polaroid. The next day, our head of security went up and cut off his laminate all-access artist pass. He then gave him the new one, and the picture ID was him with Nikky’s balls on his fucking chin!

I think we’ve made posters and put him up everywhere. That’ll fucking teach you to think you’re gonna fucking out party us dude!”

As it appears, it was a pretty wrong idea trying to outdrink Crüe for Guns And Roses’ bassist Slash. You can check out the part of the interview involving this incident below.
