Linkin Park icon Mike Shinoda‘s wife, Anna Shinoda responded to a message she received on Instagram revealing the reason why Linkin Park members were silent on social media on Chester Bennington‘s anniversary of death.
Linkin Park’s talented frontman Chester Bennington was found dead at his home in California on July 20, 2017. The cause of his death was later announced as suicide by hanging himself. His bandmates and fans around the world were devastated by the news of Chester’s tragic death.
On July 20, 2020, Linkin Park’s co-founder and vocalist Mike Shinoda’s wife Anna shared a photo of Chester Bennington on her Instagram page to remember him on his anniversary of death.
On the caption of her post, Anna wrote:
“This photo always makes me smile. Miss you.“
Recently, Anna Shinoda shared a statement via Instagram stories over a message she received about the other members of the Linkin Park family being silent on Chester’s death anniversary on social media.
In the message Anna received, it was stated:
“Hi Anna. I congratulate you. You are the only one remembering Chester on July 20. Bravo to you. I congratulate you. Mike didn’t even remember, but you remembered and shared it.”
As a response to the message, Anna Shinoda mentioned how each people’s reaction to death might be different than each other and she added everyone had the right to choose the way they mourn after the death of their loved ones.
Here’s what Anna stated in her reply to the message:
“1. It’s easy to judge someone else. Even to judge their grief and how they choose to grieve. To be honest, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to post anything yesterday or not. July 20th is a really hard day and the pressure to make a public post adds an extra layer of stress.
2. Believe me, none of us forgot, just some chose to not share on social media. That is neither a reflection of love for Chester nor a reflection of where grief sits.
3. Spread love and kindness, everybody. It is so much better than anger and judgement.”
