One of the biggest fan pages of the legendary frontman of Queen, Freddy Mercury, recently shared a rare interview about Mercury’s opinions on George Michael. It turns out Mercury wanted to make a collaboration with Aretha Franklin yet George Michael did it first.
In 1987, Aretha Franklin and George Michael made a son together named I Knew You Were Waiting For Me. The song was a number one hit in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Michael and Franklin won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, in 1987.
During the interview shared on Instagram by the fan page, Freddy Mercury revealed that he would love Aretha Franklin to sing Somebody To Love. Mercury also humorously stated that he is mad that George Michael made a duet with her, even added that he could have done better.
Here is what Mercury said:
“I’d love Aretha to sing Somebody To Love, actually… But as for me trying to sing with her? Well, she hasn’t approached me yet! I’m mad that George Michael did a duet with her. I could have done it better!”
Later on, he continued:
“Mind you, having said that I love George Michael. He has a very good voice and a sense of dignity, too. He’s one of the singers that I like.”
