A Guns N’ Roses fan page shared a post about the lawsuit on its Instagram page, reminding the fans what happened 27 years ago between Steven Adler and GNR members.
In the caption area of the post, the page stated why Guns N’ Roses paid $2.5 million dollars to Adler, explaining how Adler filed a lawsuit against the band members claiming that they were responsible for his heroin addiction and the contract between them took away his financial interest in the band.
In 1991, Steven Adler sued Guns N’ Roses and blamed the members of the band for not wanting him in the band anymore, stealing his writing credits, and he holds them responsible for his own drug addiction. These accusations, after two years of on-going trials, resulted in a payment of a $2.5 million dollars out-of-court settlement.
It all actually began when Adler was dismissed from Guns N’ Roses after the band members’ numerous attempts to get him sober. After a year of his dismissal, 27 years ago today, Adler filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates, stating that the opiate-blockers he had been taking to aid his detox interfered with his concentration. He also alleged that the contract between him and Guns N’ Roses took away his financial interest in the band.
Here is what Adler said about the contract:
“I was told that every time I did heroin, the band would fine me $2,000. What these contracts actually said was that the band was paying me $2,000 to leave. They were taking my royalties, all my writing credits. They didn’t like me anymore and just wanted me gone.”
The case was settled out of court in 1993, and Guns N’ Roses made a $2.5 million dollar out-of-court settlement payment to Steven Adler. One of the biggest fan pages of GN’R made a post on Instagram on the day of the trial, sharing the details of the incident.
Here is what they captioned under the Instagram Post:
“On this day but 27 years ago Guns N’ Roses made a $2.5 million dollar out-of-court settlement payment to Steven Adler in respect of his October 1991 lawsuit. Adler filed a lawsuit against his formers bandmates claiming that they were responsible for his drug addictions and that the contracts he had signed actually took away his financial interest in the band.”
