In every decade of rock music, several artists dominate those years with their music and style, which represents the best version of that period’s ruling rock subgenre. While a handful of artists were at the top of their games each decade, their success usually deteriorates over time.
Today, we’re here to see if this stereotypical rule applied to the three kings of rock music: Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, Former Nirvana drummer, current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. Let’s see if time mistreated these three legendary rockers or their music aged like fine wine.
Steven Tyler, Slash, And Dave Grohl Ruled Three Decades In A Row
The ‘Demon of Screamin’ Steven Tyler rose to prominence as the lead singer of Aerosmith in the 1970s. Tyler was the ultimate frontman for a decade with his fashion, energetic stage performances, and wide vocal range. His band released countless hit singles, including ‘Dream On,’ ‘Sweet Emotion,’ ‘Walk This Way,’ and many more.
Sadly, Tyler had a heavy drug and alcohol addiction, and the band’s popularity decreased by the late 1970s and early 1980s. Fortunately for his fans, the charming rocker completed drug rehabilitation, and Aerosmith got up on its feet once again in 1986. As a result, the musician dodged a bullet, and he is still considered one of the greatest lead singers of all time.
The next decade was undoubtedly ruled by Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, who achieved worldwide success in the late 1980s. The iconic musician had received critical acclaim with the band until he left GN’R in 1996, yet he was still considered one of the greatest guitarists in history. Fortunately for the fans, the guitarist returned to Guns N’ Roses in 2016. Still, the years in-between were never a failure for the rocker since he co-founded the superband Velvet Revolver and recorded with his band, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.
When the 1990s started, Nirvana became a worldwide phenomenon with its legendary second studio album, ‘Nevermind,’ which was the first record to feature drummer Dave Grohl. Although the band’s music career didn’t last long due to the loss of lead singer Kurt Cobain, it was enough to prove what a brilliant musician Grohl was.
After Nirvana’s disbandment, Dave Grohl proved to his fans what an exceptional musician he is outside of the immense success of his former band by forming Foo Fighters, with whom he has released ten successful studio albums.
The Three Performed Live Together, And It Was Epic
There’s no doubt that all these three musicians are legends, according to their fans, and they didn’t face the common faith of fading away after leaving their bands or being pushed by their own personal lives. But do they still have the same level of performance after all these years?
Lucky for their fans, there’s a live performance including Slash, Dave Grohl, and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith’s iconic track, ‘Walk This Way.’ Even though Dave Grohl doesn’t play drums that often, he gave such a great performance that he managed to mesmerize his fans with his performance and lived up to his reputation.
On the other hand, Steven Tyler is a whole mystery since he sounds even better than he did in the ’70s, even at the age of 72. After all those years of drug addiction, drinking, and endless partying, fans were surprised to see it didn’t affect his performance at all, if not made it better.
Guns N’ Roses guitarist kept his shape regardless of all these years, sounded extraordinary, and looked like he hasn’t aged even a little. After seeing ’70s singer, ’80s guitarist, and ’90s drummer rocking on stage better than ever, fans couldn’t ask for more, and they did nothing but praise these three in the comments section.
