The legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen‘s son Wolfgang Van Halen shared a statement via Instagram stories revealing why he didn’t have the intention to resemble his father.
Eddie Van Halen‘s son and the current bassist of Van Halen, Wolfgang has been focusing on his solo project for a while now. He has been sharing the hints of his upcoming album from time to time. The most interesting topic about Wolf’s solo work was whether his father would have any part in the production process. However, Wolfgang emphasized many times that Eddie wasn’t contributing to the album in any way.
Recently on Instagram, Wolf posted the photo of a question he received from a fan wondering being Eddie’s son was a blessing or a curse for him.
Here’s the question from Wolf’s fan:
“Hey dude, I gotta ask because I have been thinking about it for some time. How much do you see your father’s reputation as a blessing or a curse?”
As a response to the fan’s question, Wolfgang shared a sincere statement about his father’s impact on his own music.
“Here’s my answer for those interested…
That’s a great question. It’s really equally both. Being who I am, I think people at the least will be interested in what my work will sound like, which is very nice. But on the other hand, if it’s not exactly what they want to hear or if I don’t try to sound ‘Van Halen-y’ enough for them they’ll hate me and won’t give me the time of day.
I’m fully prepared for a wave of hate when my music releases because it won’t be what people think it’ll be. I’m not trying to be my father, I’m trying to be me.”
Furthermore, Wolfgang added another explanation to his answer and stated:
“This is very important for me to reiterate. It’s the main thing people are going to need to understand when they listen to my music. I’m not trying to be Van Halen.”
