Zakk Wylde, Ozzy Osbourne’s former guitarist joined Scott Ian, the guitarist of Anthrax, for an interview in the recent episode of ‘Never Meet Your Heroes.’ In the interview, he praised Tony Iommi and stated that he was the creator of an entire industry.

Wylde is mostly known because he used to be Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist as he worked with Osbourne from 1988 to 1995, but his career did not end after that. He is also the founder, the lead guitarist, and the lead singer of the Black Label Society. Wylde is active in the music industry and often has strong opinions about heavy metal icons.

Wylde talked about Tony Iommi and his experiences with handing him the ‘Courage Award’ in 2017. He resembled Iommi to Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven claiming that he created an entire genre himself. He also stated how thankful everyone should be to him because he created this entire industry.

Here is what he said in the interview:

“Tony Iommi basically created a whole industry. He’s basically Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven of the whole genre like the Lennon and McCartney of riffs. I mean it’s so funny because like when I was introducing Tony Iommi for ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ I go looking at everybody in the room…

I go ‘He created an entire industry like we’re all here we all had a job and we are all able to make a living because of him. Like, he created jazz and we all are jazz musicians, we own jazz clubs and everything like that because of this guy.’ So then I go ‘and the award show is called Jazz Award Show it’s like basically created because he created this form of music.‘”

In the award show, Wylde had also mentioned that Iommi is a huge inspiration because he did not give up on playing guitar even after he lost his fingers in an accident when he was 17. Therefore, the ‘Courage Award’ was given to its rightful owner.
