Black Label Society frontman Zakk Wylde spoke in a recent interview with Louder Sound and shared his feelings about not playing in Ozzy Osbourne’s latest album, ‘Ordinary Man.’
Ozzy Osbourne released his twelfth studio album, ‘Ordinary Man,’ in February 2020, and it is considered as one of the greatest albums of the legendary singer. The recording also featured lots of musicians such as Slash and Tom Morello.
Even though Zakk Wylde worked with Ozzy Osbourne’s solo band and recorded lots of great material with the Sabbath singer such as ‘No More Tears,’ ‘Black Rain,’ and more, he didn’t prefer to work with Zakk in this one.
In the interview, Zakk was asked if he felt disappointed for not playing in the ‘Ordinary Man’ album. While Zakk was saying that he is not disappointed or sad about it, he also praised both Ozzy and his producer Andrew Watt for the recording.
Furthermore, Zakk pointed out that Ozzy wanted him to continue his own path with ‘Black Label Society’ and stated that he could involve in any project if Ozzy wants to. In this way, he also showed his respect for his long-time friend.
In addition to that, Ozzy Osbourne announced that he is working on a new record with Andrew Watt once again following the release of ‘Ordinary Man,’ but Zakk revealed that he won’t be working on that album as well.
Zakk Wylde explained if he is disappointed or not for not playing in Ordinary Man in the interview:
“Not at all. I thought he and Andrew Watt did a great job. And I’m not on the new one either. Again it’s Ozz and Andrew. I understand why I’m not in the studio. Ozz once said to me that he didn’t want to be the lead singer in Black Label Society: ‘You have your own thing now, so go to it.’
I don’t have to be involved in everything Ozz does. I’ll always be there for him and Sharon. If they call now and ask me to go over to feed their dogs for three days… I’m there.”
More in the conversation, Zakk also mentioned that they are working on a new album with Black Label Society right now and stated that it is most likely to be released in November 2021.
