Ozzy Osbourne‘s lead guitarist Zakk Wylde revealed in an interview with Wikimetal that Ozzy didn’t want to be the lead singer of Black Label Society. The guitarist explained that he understood why Ozzy wouldn’t want to sing for his band.
Zakk is a hard-working musician who plays and creates songs for Black Label Society and tours with Ozzy Osbourne at the same time. However, in his recent interview, he revealed that many people ask him why he doesn’t do more with Ozzy, like co-writing songs.
During his recent conversation, he revealed that the Prince of Darkness refused the offer when he asked Ozzy to be Black Label Society’s singer. Therefore, the guitarist now thinks that if he didn’t want to be the singer for his band, he shouldn’t co-write songs with him.
Zakk explained the reason why Ozzy didn’t want to be the singer of his band by stating:
“Well, people have asked, ‘Zakk, how come you’re not writing songs with Ozzy?’ Well, years ago, Oz was like, ‘Zakk, I don’t want to be the lead singer in Black Label Society.‘
So I completely understand it. Oz was like, ‘Zakk, you’re your own guy now.‘ That’s the reason why so I completely understand that.”
He continued to say that he will be there for him no matter what by saying:
“Oz knows I’m always here for him a phone call away, and I always got his back, and whatever he needs – I’m here for him.
He was having surgery done today so I talked with him, I just told him, ‘Knock this thing out so we can have them glue you back together, so we can get you back out on the road so you can keep doing what you love doing.'”
Although the two musicians have worked together for years, neither wanted to be more involved in each others’ business more than necessary. Ozzy strongly encouraged his guitarist to be his own person and not to depend on him. Zakk was just a guitarist in Ozzy’s performances and let him decide everything, accepting his authority. Likewise, Ozzy didn’t want to sing for Black Label Society, staying away from that part of Zakk’s life.
