Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd recently spoke about his family’s history with cancer and shared his thoughts on potential causes. In a new Instagram video, he shared his belief that cancer may be linked to food, particularly the chemicals and colorings added to it.
“I’ve run into so many people with cancer, and I think it’s really in our food. I think all these different colorings and things like that. My daughter Taylor has been sick. She has to eat really clean food. Looking into this, investigating this more, it’s amazing what is in our food,” he said.
Van Zant also voiced his gratitude to Donald Trump for working on food regulations. “So what they put in our foods are government has really let us down. So I’m glad that Trump has got JFK there on board and maybe we can clean this up for future generations. There is just too much in this cancer going on around and it shouldn’t be. They’ve been working on this for a long time and I really believe it’s just the regulations that they have put in place over the years.”
In the caption of his video, Johnny Van Zant also opened up about the personal loss his family has faced. “Something was weighing on my heart today as my family approaches the 7 year mark of the loss of my daughter, Lindsay from the C word. I’ve lost numerous other family members to this awful disease and it seems that the number of people getting diagnosed with this disease is steadily rising.”
Van Zant reflected on his travels and how food standards vary across the globe, “I have traveled around the world and I have tasted the difference in the foods. It’s amazing how things can be banned in one country but be fine here in the US. I pray that we can get people in control like *RFK Jr* to have the peoples best interest. It’s time we have change when it comes to our health and longevity,” he added.
Last September, the band announced that Van Zant’s daughter needed emergency surgery after a mass was found on her brain. “A couple of days ago, Taylor started having [a] numbing feeling on her right side. She went to the emergency room,” he said in a video. “They did a CAT scan and they found a, the only way to say it is a mass on her brain. And some of it was bleeding, that was causing the numbing part.”
Although doctors didn’t think the mass was cancerous, they continued to run tests. “They’re still doing a lot of testing and we’re not out of the woods yet, but we’re in a lot better position than we thought we were in, in the beginning. And, so, keep saying the prayers for Taylor. I can’t thank you enough. It means everything to me and my family,” he added.
As a result of the family emergency, Lynyrd Skynyrd canceled shows in Anchorage, West Valley, Loveland, Colorado Springs, and Albuquerque, but resumed their tour on October 4.
