Dexter Holland expressed his hope that The Offspring will one day achieve the same level of success as Pearl Jam.
“We started as a punk band and people ask, ‘Are you a punk band? Are you a rock band?’ I don’t even know what exactly the right answer is anymore. Maybe someplace in between but you don’t ask Pearl Jam if they’re a grunge band. They’re Pearl Jam, right?” Holland said when asked by Billboard about the message he hopes fans receive from their upcoming album, ‘Supercharged.’
He added, “I hope one day to attain that level where it’s just The Offspring, but even in terms of punk, I think there were different kinds of punk bands that inspired us when we were younger.”
Discussing other punk bands, he stated, “The Sex Pistols were very what I would call nihilistic and the Dead Kennedys were very political, and somehow that all fit under the umbrella of what Punk was.”
Holland concluded, “So for us, I think the idea is that you should always think for yourself. Don’t take anything at face value. Don’t do something just because someone says you should do it. And go out and find your own path.”
‘Supercharged’ is set to be released on October 11, 2024. Noodles explained the album’s creation process in July, saying, “Each song is viewed separately. And then once you have a bunch of songs, then you kind of see where the record is going. And then you just try to build on that. I don’t think we’ve ever changed that much. We’ve never done a concept record. We never went, ‘All right, we’re done with this punk rock pop stuff. We wanna be metal now.'”
He also mentioned, “There is at least one song on this record that I would call metal. It’s just thrash metal. It’s called ‘Come To Brazil’… It’s one of the most metal. I don’t know [about] heaviest. We’ve got a lot of heavy punk rock songs as well, but this one’s probably one of the heaviest metal ones for sure. There’s another one too called ‘Get Some,’ which is pretty riff rock, almost metal.”
The Offspring is scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on October 9 to promote their new album and will perform in San Diego on November 16.
