A GoFundMe fundraising campaign has been launched to secure $15,000 for Connie Burton, the older sister of the late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. Connie urgently requires life-saving skull surgery to halt a potentially fatal infection that has spread from her teeth into her sinuses.
The campaign was initiated by Maricela Dena to help Connie cover medical expenses not fully covered by insurance. Connie faces a life-threatening medical crisis involving severe decay in her skull that originated from her teeth and has now reached her sinuses. Doctors have warned that if the decay breaks through, it could be fatal. The surgery she needs is urgent, and she must contribute a significant amount beyond what her insurance will cover.
Connie’s journey has been marked by both challenges and resilience. Despite her circumstances, including being written out of her family’s will, she remains a devoted born-again Christian committed to sharing hope and love with others. Her faith has carried her through many trials, and she continues to inspire those around her. The funds raised will go directly toward her medical care, giving her a chance to heal and continue her work.
Cliff Burton, Connie’s younger brother, was a pivotal member of Metallica from 1982 until his tragic death in 1986. The legendary bassist died on September 27, 1986, at just 24 years old in a devastating tour bus accident in Sweden. During the European leg of the band’s Master of Puppets tour, the tour bus skidded on black ice near Ljungby and flipped onto its side. Burton was thrown violently through a window, and the bus then fell on top of him, killing him instantly. The tragedy occurred in the early morning hours as the band traveled between tour dates in Stockholm and Copenhagen.
Burton had two older siblings: his sister Connie and his brother Scott, who died in 1975 from a brain aneurysm. Cliff’s death marked a devastating loss for the metal community and his family. The band honored his memory with the song “To Live Is to Die” on their 1988 album …And Justice for All. Lyrics from the track are engraved on his memorial stone: “Cannot the Kingdom of Salvation take me home.” Burton was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 as a member of Metallica, cementing his legacy as one of the most influential bassists in heavy metal history.
Now, decades after Cliff’s tragic passing, his sister Connie faces her own life-threatening medical emergency. The GoFundMe campaign represents a call for support from the metal community and beyond to help her receive the critical surgery she needs. Supporters are encouraged to contribute to help Connie overcome this medical crisis and continue her mission of sharing faith and hope with others.
