Signs of the Swarm, hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, have solidified their place in the deathcore scene since their formation in 2014. Known for their brutal soundscapes and relentless energy, the band has undergone significant evolution over the years. Here are five essential facts about their journey and impact.

1. Formation And Early Releases

Formed in 2014, Signs of the Swarm quickly made their mark with the release of their debut album, ‘Senseless Order,’ in 2016. This self-recorded effort showed their raw energy and laid the foundation for their signature blend of deathcore and slam influences. The album’s underground success led to their signing with Unique Leader Records later that year. Their sophomore release, ‘The Disfigurement of Existence‘ (2017), introduced black metal and hardcore elements, signaling a maturation in their sound.

2. Lineup Changes And Vocal Evolution

The band’s vocal dynamics underwent a significant shift in 2018 when original vocalist CJ McCreery departed to join Lorna Shore. David Simonich, initially filling in during tours, was soon announced as the permanent frontman. Simonich’s powerful and versatile vocal style brought a new dimension to the band’s music, as evidenced in their third album, ‘Vital Deprivation’ (2019), Punk News reports.

3. Collaborations With Notable Artists

Signs of the Swarm have embraced collaborations to expand their sonic palette. Their track ‘Final Phase’ featured Dickie Allen of Infant Annihilator, adding a distinctive edge to their sound. In 2021, ‘Hollow Prison’ included guest vocals from Alex Erian of Despised Icon, further showcasing their willingness to blend styles and influences. They also worked with Matt Heafy of Trivium on the song ‘The Witch Beckons,’ Devolution Magazine notes.

4. Decade Of The Swarm Tour

Celebrating ten years of relentless music, Signs of the Swarm embarked on their first proper North American headlining tour in 2024, aptly named the ‘Decade of the Swarm Tour,’ according to Metal Sucks. This milestone event featured a career-spanning setlist and support from notable acts like Cane Hill and Ov Sulfur. The tour underscored the band’s growth and their deep connection with fans, marking a significant chapter in their journey.

5. Recent Lineup And Continued Evolution

As of 2025, the band’s lineup comprises drummer Bobby Crow, vocalist David Simonich, guitarist Carl Schulz, and bassist Michael Cassese. This ensemble continues to refine their sound, blending deathcore with elements of death metal, metalcore, and industrial influences. Their commitment to innovation ensures that Signs of the Swarm remains a dynamic force within the genre.
