Mastodon guitarist Bill Kelliher has addressed Brent Hinds’ departure from the band in a recent interview with Guitar World. This marks the band’s first official response since Hinds’ exit announcement after 25 years of collaboration.

“It’s been a fun, wild f*cking ride, that’s for sure. We achieved a lot of things that I never in a million years would have imagined. There’s been Grammys, touring with our heroes, like Iron Maiden, Metallica, Motörhead, and Tool. I cherish all of that,” Kelliher expressed.

“Like a marriage, sometimes people grow apart, and they get interested in other things. We wish nothing but the best for Brent in chasing his dreams,” he continued. “You know, it’s amazing that we made it 25 years with the four of us. I mean, it’s like being married to three other dudes, traveling the world, trying to stay the course, and having everybody agree.”

Kelliher’s reflections underscore Mastodon’s remarkable evolution from their early days to their current status as metal’s most respected acts.

Grammy Success

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Mastodon’s milestone achievement of winning their first Grammy Award for ‘Sultan’s Curse’ in 2018.

The winning song appeared on their concept album ‘Emperor of Sand.’ The album explored themes of mortality and survival, drawing inspiration from band members’ personal experiences with family cancer battles.

Evolution And Recognition

The band transformed from an underground death metal project into a globally acclaimed act. Their groundbreaking albums ‘Leviathan’ and ‘Blood Mountain’ received ‘Album of the Year’ honors from Metal Hammer.

These achievements solidified Mastodon’s position in modern metal. The band consistently pushed genre boundaries while maintaining their artistic integrity.

Legacy And Impact

Mastodon’s original lineup shaped metal music for 25 years. Their distinctive approach to progressive metal and storytelling established new genre standards.

The band successfully bridged underground metal and mainstream success. Their Grammy recognition and creative vision have left an indelible mark on the metal scene.
