Nergal Explains Shocking Decision to Put Behemoth on Hold for Entirety of 2027

Behemoth frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski has revealed that the Polish extreme metal band will enter an indefinite hiatus with no live activities for at least one year following their October 2026 European co-headlining tour with Dimmu Borgir and Dark Funeral.

Nergal explained the reasoning behind the decision during a recent interview. The band desperately needs time to rest and rejuvenate. “We need to recharge batteries. Basically, we need to rethink rejuvenate, so to say, and for that you need time. So I definitely don’t wanna rush anything. So we’re looking for at least one year off — nothing, no activities,” he said. This break is essential to prevent burnout and ensure the band returns with renewed creative energy rather than pushing forward without proper rest.

The strategic decision to take 2027 off comes after Behemoth carefully curated their 2026 schedule to prioritize the major European tour. Rather than committing to a full summer festival run, the band selected only four major festivals in June. They deliberately avoided any performances in July or August to protect the October dates and allow for proper preparation and production. Once the October tour concludes, Behemoth will officially be “on hold.”

Despite the live performance hiatus, Behemoth will not be entirely silent during their year off. The band is planning to release a new 40-minute EP album just before the October tour begins. Additionally, Nergal confirmed that the band is planning a special release for the following year, though he remained cryptic about the details. “We might be dropping some music. We are releasing a new EP album. It’s 40 minutes of music. So we’re dropping that right before the tour. We’re planning something for the next year as well, some special release. I can’t say much about it now. So there’s gonna be things happening in the Behemoth camp, but there’s gonna be no live activities from us,” he explained.

The hiatus extends beyond just the band’s touring schedule. Nergal has also stepped back from the promotional side of the music industry. He has stopped doing most interviews as part of his broader effort to disconnect and recharge. “I have stopped doing interviews for most part as well. So we just wanna chill,” he stated. This complete withdrawal from the public eye represents a rare moment for a band of Behemoth’s stature and touring history.

The 16-date co-headlining tour with Dimmu Borgir and Dark Funeral across Europe in October 2026 will serve as the culmination of Behemoth’s 2026 activities. The tour represents a significant undertaking with full production capabilities, making it the perfect final statement before the band steps away from live performance entirely. With this tour marking the end of an era of constant activity, Behemoth fans will have one last opportunity to witness the band in their current form before they disappear from the live circuit for an extended period of creative reflection and personal restoration.
