In a new interview with TotalRock, Alex Skolnick shared his thoughts on Metal Allegiance and discussed musicians he’d love to invite to join the band.
“There are others, I won’t name, who are maybe terrific musicians. But it might not be that easy to bring them into a project,” he said. “Listen, I’ll name one. I don’t know him personally but I love him. Yngwie Malmsteen.”
However, Skolnick is uncertain whether Malmsteen would consider joining. “He’s a great influence of mine and he’s a great person. He’s one of a kind. I don’t know, bringing somebody like that in… I doubt he would even want to do it. We would totally love to have him. But there is somebody like that it really shows all about them.”
Metal Allegiance, formed in 2014, consists of Mark Menghi, Alex Skolnick, David Ellefson, and Mike Portnoy.
Skolnick also announced that the band is planning new music. He explained earlier, “We’ve been talking about it for some time. It’s always easier said than done, given everybody’s schedules, but we’re continuing to talk about it and I’m pretty sure that [2025] is the year we will get started on it.”
He added, “So I don’t know what it’s gonna look like, I don’t know how it’s going to compare to the past albums. Maybe we’ll get our feet wet with an EP or a single — who knows? — but either way, we’re gonna get started and see how it goes, probably later this [coming] year.”
The band has released two albums so far: their 2015 debut and ‘Volume II: Power Drunk Majesty,’ along with the 2016 EP ‘Fallen Heroes.’ They will perform live on January 23, 2025, at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.
