Mark Tremonti recently expressed his admiration for the rock band Boston and unveiled an exciting new project during an interview.
Speaking with Matt Pinfield on the New & Approved podcast, Tremonti shared that he has been purchasing gear created by Boston’s founder, Tom Scholz. Using Rockman equipment, he plans to replicate Boston’s sound while revisiting their debut album. “I’m about to go in and just relearn the whole Boston first debut record because I’m going to have pretty much his tone replicated,” he said. “I absolutely love that record, so that’ll be a fun project.”
Tremonti also praised the success of Boston’s first album, highlighting its achievement of selling 17 million copies in the U.S. within three years. Comparing this to Creed’s success, he remarked, “I don’t think people realize how big that is. Our biggest Creed record sold 11 million over 25 years. That [album] sold 17 million, I think, in the first three years. So that’s a massive record.”
When asked whether his project might influence his work with Creed, Alter Bridge, or his solo career, Tremonti revealed his desire to perform a Boston song. “If I could get Myles to cover a Boston song, because he’s got that high voice,” he said, though he acknowledged it might be a challenge. “Brad Delp, man, he hits some incredibly high notes. I think that’d be tough for even Myles. I mean, that’s some good stuff.”
Despite the difficulty, Tremonti is confident Kennedy could take on the task.
Boston’s debut album remains iconic, selling 17 million copies in the U.S. and contributing to the band’s total of over 75 million records sold worldwide. While Tom Scholz has hinted at creating new material, the maintenance of analog equipment has delayed progress. Boston last toured in 2017, and there has been no update on future tours or albums.
